Words To My Kids

Picture
Picture"The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing." Proverbs 12:18
Words hold the power to build up and to tear down.
With a house full of people words are plentiful, leaving abundant opportunity to encourage or sadly, tear down.

With that said, I write to you, my precious ones.
I pray I use my words to encourage you when you're downhearted or feel you've failed.  Using  words that bundle you up and rest easy on your already aching heart.  Words that lift and bring a smile to your dispirited face.

When correcting you I will use choice words that grip the root of the problem rather than cut down the entire flower, stem and all.  Words placed strategically where they'll give life and change you.  Change your mind and change your actions to face what's right and true.

You're precious to me.  I know my words can break and burden your young heart, so I will keep a tight guard on my mouth thinking through each response before I speak.  You might not know it now, but there are plenty of opportunities for me to lose my words on you.  It takes constant heart checking for me to remember you're new at this.  You are learning.  So I must make a choice each day to love you first, correct you wisely, teach you consistently, walk with you boldly and guide you into the light of Christs love.

My words will one day be remembered by you, not for their exact quotation but for their overall aroma.  Whether the scent be sweet and addicting to the ears or if they pierced like a sharp blade wounding the delicate heart within.
Know this my darlings: my words won't always come out right, I will fail to speak with grace at times.  But I promise you this, each night while on my bed I'll go over my words from the day gone by, and in my mind remember the times I spoke too quickly or chose to be silent when gentle words were what you needed.  I'll ask God to reveal to me where I was wrong in these moments and come to you in His morning mercies and ask you to forgive my misspoken or unspoken words.
For in these days of your youth my plan is to win your heart and water your soul and mind with truth, life and love.   It is my greatest ambition and most prized task.

"My life passes as swiftly as the evening shadows. I am withering away like grass."  Psalm 102:11

I write to free the words inside and document my numbered days, to tell of God's glory in all He's done for me and with me.  I am clay being molded and shaped into His likeness.
