8/31/2018 0 Comments A Letter To God![]() You're always sorting through the things of my heart. Always leaning me towards the path of righteousness, swallowing me up in Your love, surrounding me in warmth like that of a patchwork quilt that lays heavy and cool on my legs. All too often I wonder how good You really are. I wonder if You truly have my best interest or if there is a part of You that mimics a more human side, making me work for Your love. The truth of Your goodness rings loud in my heart and mind. I read of Your peace that surpasses all understanding and Your gentleness like that of a mother. I cling deeply to the image of You molding me like clay and searching high and low the hills for one lost lamb. I remember in my soul the friendship You offer by the laying down of Your own life. And I marvel at the way You've provided for my needs all of my days. Every bright morning sun and star streaked sky speaks Your name. Every deer track left on a dew covered grass speaks Your name. Every change of season and phase of the moon. Every giant oak and tiny sapling. Every moment of uncertainty, every tear, every heartache, every past relived and future hoped for speaks Your name. Every extra provision and safe trip home. Every quiet moment alone and all the loud ones too, speaks Your name. For You are the Good Shepherd. The manager of my life. The author and finisher of my faith. There isn't a moment that passes in which You do not hold tightly to me. You've hemmed me in behind and before and Your right hand upholds me. I can laugh at the days to come for I know the manager of my life will not let me down. I need not figure things out or rush in ahead of the pack to gain a good seat. There is a table placed before me already where I have been given rest and nourishment for my soul. "Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear You, which you have prepared for those who trust in You In the presence of the sons of men! You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues." Psalm 31:19 So when my little girl comes home from a mommy and me shopping trip and says, "Mama, I saw sin everywhere we went today." I'll direct her to You. I'll turn her eyes upon Jesus and His beauty. I'll remind her of the glorious purposes she has in His story and the love He wishes to pour upon her heart. And when I tuck her in at night I'll thank God for the richness of His mercy bestowed in undeserved grace on my life. "I believe in Christ, like I believe in the sun - not because I can see it, but by it I can see everything else" C.S. Lewis
